College of Natural and Social Sciences 

Salary Range: $4,104 - $7,425/Monthly

Work Schedule: Full-Time, Monday – Thursday, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.; Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; Temporary appointment expires on or before one year from the date of hire; may be extended; may become permanent; exempt classification.

Essential FunctionsUnder the general direction of the Dean of the College of Natural and Social Sciences (NSS), the incumbent will be responsible for independent performance of the day-to-day communication activities for the College.  The incumbent oversees the design of all NSS marketing materials which includes creating, designing, and updating marketing materials including the College's newsletters for print and web by writing content, discerning key communication points, and soliciting input and feedback for supporting the College's mission; develop metrics, conduct analyses, and report on the progress and value of the College's marketing and social media efforts; oversee marketing content and various College social media accounts; oversee content production including College photography and videography and manage the photography/videography digital archives.  In addition, the incumbent is responsible for overseeing the College's social media strategy; administering LinkedIn, ConstantContact, Twitter, Facebook, and other accounts used by NSS to attract prospective students and remain in touch with current students and alumni; oversee web marketing; handle any search engine marketing on behalf of NSS programs; use created content to optimize the College website for search engines; work with the College ITCs and the University Social Media Network Group to revise website content as needed and lead re-design efforts on the College's behalf.  The incumbent will collaborate with and support the efforts of various college content providers to ensure that the College's communications content is consistent with the mission and strategic initiatives of the College and University.  The incumbent will produce written and graphic/visual content to help promote and share the College's activities through interaction with students, faculty, staff, parents, donors, and alumni.

Required Qualifications & ExperienceBachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field, with three years of experience in the communications, public relations, or marketing fields; experience in web content development, management, image editing and page layout;  in  Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat, In Design, or similar software; and in representing an organization on social media platforms such as ConstantContact, Linkedln, lnstagram, Twitter, Facebook. The incumbent must have a working knowledge of current web software, databases, and browsers including HTML (e.g., Drupal}; and familiarity with copyright and other applicable laws pertaining to publications and the news media.  The incumbent must have graphic design skills; excellent written and verbal communication skills with a solid foundation in grammar, spelling and the composition of various communication vehicles; strong leadership, project management, and organizational skills; and exceptional interpersonal and networking skills, including strong consultative and persuasive skills to work with internal and external constituents.  The incumbent must have the ability to communicate complex subjects with simple and direct communication to inspire audiences to action; analyze and select pertinent facts and integrate them into communication vehicles;  be detail-oriented and able  to manage changing priorities, critical deadlines, and maintain a sense of urgency, initiative, and follow-through; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others, maintain a professional demeanor, establish cooperative and collegial relationships with individuals, groups; and work effectively as a member of a team.  The incumbent must have a demonstrated interest and/or ability to work in a multicultural/multiethnic environment.  A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the California State University. Desired Qualifications: Master's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Journalism; Communications; Public Relations; Marketing, or a related field; experience in an academic setting; and proficient in the use of interactive marketing techniques such as video sharing, social networks, email marketing, and blogs.
