ECST STUDENT SHOPS SUPERVISOR
Equipment Technician II – Electro-Mechanical
Engineering Computer Science and Technology

Salary Range: $3907 - $6779/Monthly

Work Schedule: Full-Time, Days and work schedule to be determined; non-exempt classification. Temporary appointment expires on or before one year from the date of hire; may be extended, may become permanent.

Essential Functions: Under the general supervision of Engineering, Computer Science, and Technology (ECST) Dean's designee, the incumbent will oversee the operation of the ECST Makerspace and student fabrication spaces; maintain the equipment in the shops;  supervise the use of equipment and tools; provide assistance to faculty or lab coordinators to develop training materials on safe use of materials, supplies and equipment; and offer assistance to student project teams working in the MakerSpace. The incumbent also serves as the MakerSpace safety coordinator and assists other staff in achieving compliance with safety protocols, providing safety training for students and serve as the liaison between EH&S and departments in the College of ECST.

Required Qualifications & Experience:

Two years of full-time journey-level or skilled experience in the maintenance, repair, and operation of mechanical, electromechanical, electronics, or welding equipment. Two years of trade school or technical arts training with specialization in the type of equipment repair to which assigned, completion of an apprenticeship program, or completion of a full military specialization in the required type of equipment maintenance and repair may substitute for one year of the required experience. Thorough knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and equipment commonly used in design and fabrication. Knowledge of design and drafting procedures. Knowledge of safety procedures related to the use of machining and fabrication equipment. Ability to perform complex troubleshooting; design, fabricate, modify, and repair technical equipment; read and write at a level appropriate to the duties of the position; make arithmetic computations where required; plan, organize and schedule work; develop off-campus resources related to the discipline for obtaining materials or equipment; and create databases to maintain safety training documentation. Desired Qualifications: Equivalent to a graduation from a four-year college or university with 16 semester units in courses involving extensive use of materials, supplies, or equipment and in a discipline related to the specialty area which assigned. Equivalent to four years of experience providing instructional support services for a machine shop or related area or in producing materials or supplies or repairing equipment.
