PHYSICIAN
Physician – Primary Care
Health Center

Salary Range: $72.20 - $122.63/ Hourly

Work Schedule: Part time, 17 hours per week; Tuesday 8:30 am - 6:00 pm, Friday 8:30 am - 5:00 pm; Temporary appointment expires on or before June 30, 2023; may be extended, may become permanent; exempt classification.

Essential Functions: The services provided as a Student Health Center include but are not limited to primary medical care, early pregnancy termination, counseling and psychological services, and sexual health education and support. All staff and faculty who work in the Student Health Center, as relevant to their specific position, are expected to facilitate the services we provide. The incumbent performs assigned medical diagnostic and treatment activities that are within the scope of the program established by the CSU Board of Trustees and that require a licensed physician who is Board Certified. Under general administrative medical direction, Physicians have primary responsibility for primary care and/or specialized clinical duties that require licensing and certification in a medical specialty appropriate to their assigned duties. Physicians also supervise the delivery of medical care by other health care professional and practitioners in the Student Health Center.

Required Qualifications & Experience:  Graduation from a medical school and completion of a residency training program in a primary care field such as family medicine, general internal medicine, gynecology, general pediatrics, emergency medicine, preventive medicine accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or equivalent. Must possess and maintain: a valid State of California license to practice medicine; current American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) or American Osteopathic Association (AOA) board certification appropriate for the assigned duties; valid Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) registration and number for prescribing controlled substances; current cardiopulmonary resuscitation and automated external defibrillator (CPR/AED) certification as appropriate for the assigned duties. In accordance with Executive Order 943 a physician can be given clinical privileges pending initial certification, but must be board certified as soon as possible, but no later than two years after the date of hire. Thorough knowledge of and the ability to effectively and efficiently apply the principles and methods essential to the diagnosis and treatment of common primary care medical disorders, and in the assessment and response to acute medical situations; and understanding of community resources for referral of medical care and treatment beyond the scope of the Student Health Center. Knowledge of: current public health practices; local, state, and national laws and regulations pertaining to the medical field; and applicable professional ethics standards and patient privacy. Ability to serve as a mentor and resource consultant for other health center personnel; and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of medical practitioners and specialists, as well as students, administrators, staff, and faculty. Demonstrated interest and ability to work in a multicultural/multiethnic environment. A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current CSU employees who may apply for the position.
