EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF HOUSING AND RESIDENCE LIFE

In addition to the oversight of Cal State LA’s comprehensive student housing and residential life program, the Executive Director of Housing and Residence Life will also have principal responsibility for guiding the development of our recently completed state of the art and premier residential community, South Village, designated for first- and second-year students. The residence features a robust offering of dormitory-style rooms, study spaces, community lounges, fitness center, dining hall, and many more amenities intended to promote student success and enhance the campus experience.
The Position: The Executive Director of Housing and Residence Life provides vision, guidance and leadership for the overall planning, development, and business operations of Housing Services and Residence Life. The Executive Director will: Implement best practices related to residential life programs and services, ensuring the establishment of a vibrant living and learning community that positively impacts residents' academic success and overall campus experience; lead the development of effective relationships with faculty, staff, and administrators at Cal State LA in order to make certain students are able to leverage the full potential of resources available on the campus that contributes to the overall mission of the University; oversee the selection, development, supervision, and evaluation of staff; facilitate internal and external professional development opportunities for management and staff; ensure adherence to Human Resource policies and procedures and resolve high-level employee concerns; develop a comprehensive budget planning and implementation process that ensures compliance with all University and CSU financial policies and requirements; develop annual occupancy and revenue projections in keeping with the long-range goals, aligned with the University's strategic priorities; ensure the development of fiscally sound operating budgets, including revenue projections and expenditure plans based on occupancy, rental rates, and summer conferencing activities; ensure all required financial assessment and reporting are completed currently; ensure the proper administration of the residential education and co-curricular programs that operate 24 hours/day within student housing, in collaboration with various University departments; provide oversight for the effective implementation of a 24-hour response system for student concerns, facility emergencies, and crises management protocols in collaboration with Public Safety, Facilities Services, and Risk Management; ensure the effective communication with the CARE team and Community Care Team regarding student concerns; collaborate with Public Safety, Public Affairs and Communications, and University Counsel for the development and review of policies and procedures pertaining to community safety and security; regularly assesses and evaluate the operation with a focus on continuous quality improvement, retention, and student success; establish plans for short and long-term improvement of housing buildings and grounds; work with the housing leadership team and the division strategic initiatives manager, oversees marketing efforts, including all publications and printed materials, customer service activities, and special programs; manage contracts and other legal documents supporting the Housing Services operation; process evictions and other legal issues with advice from University Counsel; represent the department and campus at regional and national meetings to maintain knowledge of best practices, support professional development ,and strive to enhance the student housing experience; ensure that all required housing related reports and compliance material are prepared in a timely manner and submitted to the appropriate agency, including CSU Chancellor's Office; and perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications and Experience: Bachelor's degree and three to five years of progressively responsible experience in a student housing environment. Experience as head of a Housing/Residential Life department or program is highly preferred.

Preferred Qualifications: Master's Degree. Proven record of accomplishment in the various facets of the administration of a complex university housing operation. Leadership demonstrated by a record of accepting responsibility, taking prudent risks, and accomplishing organizational goals by fulfilling the potential of staff members. Proven record of successfully working with students, faculty, staff, and external community members. Ability to develop innovative programs to meet student needs. Excellent analytical written and oral communication skills.
Compensation: Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications. A comprehensive benefits package is provided.
Appointment: The Administrator II appointment will be made under the guidelines for management and supervisory employees of the California State University. All rights and benefits associated with this appointment are governed by the Management Personnel Plan.
