Tenure-Track Faculty Position

College of Engineering, Computer Science, and Technology

Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering

Starting Date:

August, 2023

Minimum Qualifications:

1) An earned doctorate (Ph.D.) in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or other closely related engineering discipline from an accredited institution (or equivalent) is required; however, applicants nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) may be considered.  For appointment, the doctorate must be completed by the date of appointment (8/17/2023).

2) Expertise in at least one of, but not limited to, the following areas: Aerospace Systems, Biomechanics, Robotics, Vibrations and Controls, Dynamics or Kinematics, Fluid and Thermal Sciences, Materials Science, and Solid Mechanics.

3) Demonstrated commitment to teaching undergraduates from diverse socioeconomic, cultural, and academic backgrounds, including first-generation and non-traditional students.

4) Evidence of relevant scholarly publications (both conference proceedings and journals).

Preferred Qualifications:

1) Evidence of successful teaching experience at the undergraduate and/or graduate level.

2) Evidence of successful experience generating financial resources through grants/contracts.

3) Industry and/or post-doctoral experience.

Duties:

The primary professional responsibilities of instructional faculty members are: teaching, research, scholarship and/or creative activity, and service to the University, profession and to the community.  These responsibilities generally include: advising students, participation in campus and system-wide committees, maintaining office hours, working collaboratively and productively with colleagues, and participation in traditional academic functions.

Salary:

The College of Engineering, Computer Science, and Technology (https://www.calstatela.edu/ecst) offers ABET-accredited BS programs in Civil, Electrical, and Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science; and BS degrees in Aviation Administration, Engineering Technology, and Fire Protection Administration and Technology. The College also offers MS degrees in Computer Science, Civil, Electrical, and Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, and Industrial Management. The Department of Mechanical Engineering (https://www.calstatela.edu/ecst/me) is in the College of Engineering, Computer Science, and Technology and offers programs of study leading to a BSME and a MSME.  The Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET (https://www.abet.org).
