Salary Range: $3,505 - $6294/Monthly (Budgeted Salary $4,362 - $5,994/Monthly)

 

Work Schedule: Full-Time, Varies-Rotating: Weekends, Holidays; non-exempt classification.

Essential Functions: The incumbent is responsible for maintaining effective and efficient communication between the University Law Enforcement Headquarters, University Police Officers, Parking Officers, other outside emergency, law enforcement agencies and the public. The incumbent receives and records information quickly and accurately from complaints, requests, and signals from a variety of communications equipment such as radio transceiver, 911 System, JDIC/CELTS terminal, telephones, University fire and burglar alarms, emergency signaling devices, and other telecommunication equipment. Incumbent must be able to react quickly and think clearly in emergency situations, evaluate information received, and coordinate the proper action to take. The incumbent utilizes PC-based Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system to enter and dispatch work.

Required Qualifications & Experience: Essential entry qualifications require the ability to effectively use a phonetic alphabet, speak clearly and concisely, follow oral and written instructions, transfer information accurately, handle a wide range of interpersonal interactions effectively, and learn the use of applicable automated dispatch and law enforcement systems and databases. Incumbents must have completed or be able to attend and successfully complete the Police Officers Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) Dispatcher Course. Incumbents who upon hire, do not possess a P.O.S.T. Dispatcher Certificate will be required to pass a written test related to essential dispatching skills. Additionally, incumbents must successfully pass supplemental P.O.S.T. requirements for dispatchers such as a background check, physical and psychological examinations, drug testing, and related requirements. Must possess a valid California driver license. Demonstrated ability and/or interest in working in a multicultural/multiethnic environment. A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the California State University. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current California State University employees who may apply for the position. The incumbent must have a demonstrated interest and/or ability in working in a multicultural/multiethnic environment.
