Job Summary 

Under the direction of the Cashiering Supervisor, this position provides support for cashiering operations including payroll, posting/counting/balancing monies, preparing bank deposits, sale of student and guest parking, maintenance and collection of parking permit machines, audits of satellite cashiering operations, and other back-office functions utilizing the PeopleSoft Student Administration System, CASHNet POS system, T2 parking, and OTRS systems. The position also provides customer service to students, faculty, staff, and university departments analyzing student accounts, processing payments and deposits and payment agreements, all in accordance with university policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provides Cashiering Operations Support functions: Post payments, balance monies, and prepare deposits along with respective reconciliations and reporting utilizing CASHNet (POS System), PeopleSoft Student Financials, and the T2 Parking System.
  • Provides in-person Customer Service answering a broad range of questions, analyzing students accounts, and processing transactions using available systems (PeopleSoft and Cashnet), both front-line and over the phone, with efficiency, integrity, and quality.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to be able to provide effective and quality service to customers, which include interaction with other departments. Knowledge of automated financial systems and PC software. Excellent organizational skills and high level of acceptance of responsibility to complete assignments, as required. The ability to understand, interpret and apply complex rules and regulations to provide effective and quality customer service. Thorough knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles to perform accounting functions. Familiar with cashiering functions to render optimum service. Cash handling experience preferred. Ability to work in a team environment and be an active team member, to assist others in the office, and to accommodate rotation of job duties, staggered breaks, and variation of approved office hours and work schedules. A change agent, willing to accept changes in policies, procedures, and systems and promote those changes among co-workers.

Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community.  Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures.  Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."

Education and Experience

  • Equivalent to three years of progressively responsible financial record-keeping experience required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business or accounting preferred.

Physical Summary

Medium work - Job involves lifting heavy-weight objects (20-40 pounds) and/or 20% - 40% of the job involves standing, squatting, kneeling, or walking. May require pushing or pulling objects within the weight limits.

Compensation

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

Hiring Rate: The hiring rate for this position is $3,872.

CSU Classification Salary Range: The CSU Classification Salary Range for this position is $3,872 - $6,428 per month.

Time Base

1.0  time-base, 40 hours per week.

Duration of Appointment

This is a temporary position for one year with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.
