Major Duties
Under general supervision, the College and Marketing Communications Writer creates foundational and compelling cases for programs, collaborates cross-functionally on content, ensures quality and search engine optimization (SEO), analyzes content performance, and engages in ongoing professional development, consistently reflecting CSUN's mission and commitment to student success. The role demands close collaboration with senior administrators, program directors, and faculty to effectively communicate the distinctive qualities and benefits of each academic offering. This includes developing comprehensive content strategies, conducting thorough research, and ensuring all materials align with branding standards and regulatory guidelines.
- Collaborate with the marketing and web development, and program development teams to create engaging and informative copy for the College's website.
- Conceptualize and write compelling cases and engaging messaging for print materials such as flyers, brochures, catalogs, and posters.
- Research, write, and edit articles for digital public relations (PR) purposes, focusing on topics relevant to higher education, online learning, and industry trends.
- Ensure that all copy produced for websites, print materials, and digital PR articles incorporates relevant keywords, meta tags, and other SEO best practices.
- Analyze website and digital PR article performance metrics using analytics tools to identify opportunities for content optimization and improvement.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
- Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university; Bachelor’s degree Advertising, Marketing, Communications, Journalism, or Writing preferred, higher-level degree is desirable.
- Equivalent to three (3) years of professional or technical experience in public affairs, media relations, marketing, and/or market research; four years preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Demonstrated expertise in developing comprehensive, compelling cases that communicate program benefits and distinctive features for higher education audiences.
- Proven ability to create engaging and persuasive content across digital platforms, including websites, ensuring consistency with brand and messaging guidelines.
- Strong proficiency in conceptualizing and crafting targeted print collateral, such as brochures, flyers, and catalogs, that effectively highlights program advantages.
- Skilled in researching, writing, and editing impactful digital public relations content focused on higher education topics, tailored to enhance visibility and thought leadership.
Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

- Classification: Public Affairs/Communication Specialist / 0800 / 2
- The anticipated HIRING RANGE: $4146 - $6300 per month, dependent upon qualifications and experience. The salary range for this classification is: $4146 - $7500 per month.
- HOURS: Full Time; 40 hours per week; Monday through Friday; may include evenings and weekends.
- This is a Regular position with a one-year probationary period.
- The position is currently hybrid (3 days in office, 2 days remote); however, this is subject to change based on student and/or operational needs.
