Position Summary

Are you detail-oriented, collaborative, and passionate about supporting student access to higher education? San Diego State University (SDSU) is seeking an Administrative Support Coordinator I to support our First Year Admission Eligibility Unit. This essential role ensures that over 90,000 first-time freshmen applicants are reviewed thoroughly and fairly, helping students take the first step toward achieving their academic goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Admissions Eligibility Determination: Review high school transcripts and application materials to assess CSU admissions eligibility, ensuring alignment with a-g college preparatory course requirements and GPA standards.
  • Special Populations Processing: Evaluate applications requiring special attention, including those from international students, student-athletes, compact program applicants, and other designated groups.
  • Residency Determination: Determine applicants’ residency status for both admission and tuition purposes using California residency criteria and federal immigration guidelines.
  • Customer Support and Communication: Provide clear and accurate information to applicants, families, and counselors via phone, email, and written correspondence regarding admissions and residency requirements.
  • Data Management: Accurately enter and maintain applicant data in the student information system, supporting timely and accurate processing of undergraduate applications.
  • Cross-Department Collaboration: Refer inquiries to appropriate campus departments when necessary, contributing to a seamless admissions experience for all applicants.

Position Information

  • This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, temporary position with an anticipated end date one year from the start date, with the possibility of reappointment. 
  • This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation.
  • Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
  • This position is approved for partial telecommuting with onsite work in San Diego.

Department Summary

Enrollment Services is comprised of the Undergraduate and Graduate Admissions, Office of the Registrar, Prospective Student Services, Out of State Recruitment and Strategic Partnerships, International Recruitment, and Enrollment Services Communications. Enrollment Services implements SDSU enrollment management policies and provides services to students from their initial point of interest in SDSU to their graduation.

The Office of Admissions consists of the following areas: First-Year Admissions, Transfer Admissions, Graduate Admissions, Athletics & International Admissions, Admissions Eligibility Unit, Transfer Admission Support and Enrollment Services Support Unit.

Education and Experience

Entry to this classification requires a fully functional knowledge of and skill in standard office procedures and practices, as well as an ability to understand and operate in a variety of organizational structures. Additionally, incumbents are expected to have a thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation and be able to clearly communicate orally and in writing. Some positions may require a knowledge of business mathematics beyond basic arithmetic. The ability to use and quickly learn new office support technology systems and software packages is also a prerequisite.

These qualifications would normally be obtained through a high school program, technical/vocational program, or their equivalents combined with several years of related office work experience.

Key Qualifications

  • Previous professional experience in a university setting in admissions, advising, evaluations, or other student service-related office.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Proficiency using personal computers and web browser functionality.
  • Experience with document reviews in a high-volume environment.
  • Experience in data entry and updating database records.
  • Professional experience reviewing/evaluating educational transcripts to determine eligibility is preferred.
  • Professional experience using a student information system at a college or university (People Soft/Campus Solutions) is preferred.
  • Professional experience working in a University Admissions office with a diverse student population is preferred.

Compensation and Benefits

Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $3,864 per month. 

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,864 - $6,072 per month.
