Major Duties

Under general supervision, the Program Specialist, STEAM & Whole Family Outreach independently develops culturally responsive outreach initiatives and innovative STEAM programming, coordinates community engagement, and sustains partnerships. Additionally, they facilitate financial aid workshops, mentor training, and evaluate programs to promote educational opportunity and innovation aligned with institutional objectives.

  • Independently plans, designs, implements, and evaluates high-impact, innovative STEAM educational and intergenerational programming aligned with institutional and funder priorities.
  • Oversees K-16 outreach and community engagement programming—including family engagement events, outreach campaigns, mentorship pipelines, and STEAM pathways initiatives.
  • Develops and sustains campus, school, and community partnerships.
  • Facilitates financial aid and college planning workshops.
  • Strengthens and develops regional outreach with K-12 schools, CSUN campus, and community-based organizations to expand access to educational opportunity and innovation in STEAM education.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university in a job-related field required.
  • Equivalent to five (5) years of full-time, progressively responsible relevant experience. Oversight and administration of a program with supervision and/or lead experience.

 

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience involving outreach, program or initiative development, implementation and evaluation leading to the development or improvement of administrative policies, procedures, practices, or programming.
  • Experienced in designing and implementing HSI, STEAM, or other high-impact practices and educational or community programming in higher education or nonprofit settings, including programs for historically underserved or underrepresented students, and developing or implementing culturally relevant programming.
  • Strong project, program or grant management and experience in developing programming in areas such as whole family programming, HSI programming or STEAM education programming, and working independently with various internal and external partners, including K-16 partners, community-based organizations, industry and/or professional organizations as well as campus areas, divisions or departments.
  • Experience in training, training development, and providing lead work direction to student staff.
  • Familiarity with CSU system policies, Title V grants, and equity-based student support initiatives.
  • Bilingual Spanish/English proficiency.

 

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to initiate, develop, and sustain partnerships for program impact.
  • Demonstrated ability in taking initiative, being proactive to develop strategic solutions, and comfortable in a fast-paced environment balancing multiple priorities and assignments and exercising independent and sound decision-making as part of a highly-collaborative team while committed to ongoing professional growth, and continual improvement and team development.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to present complex information clearly, including impact report analysis, drafting or compilation, developing and drafting outreach materials as well as presentations, summaries and other materials.
  • Proven ability to evaluate and develop evaluation of programming, outreach and other initiatives, including setting data benchmarks, data collection methods and other measures to demonstrate program impact.
  • Demonstrated experience working effectively with diverse populations and stakeholders.
  • Proven organizational and problem-solving skills.

 

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

  • The university offers an excellent benefits package, including but not limited to: medical, dental, vision, retirement & savings, tuition waiver and more.
  • Classification: Admin Analyst/Spclst  / 1038 / grade 3
  • The anticipated HIRING RANGE: $5537 - $6875 per month, dependent upon qualifications and experience. The salary range for this classification is: $5537 - $10,014 per month.
  • HOURS: Full Time; 40 hours per week; Monday through Friday; may include evenings and weekends.  
  • This is a Temporary position; end date to be determined.
  • The position is currently hybrid (4 days in office, 1 day remote); however, this is subject to change based on student and/or operational needs.
