Major Duties

Under general supervision, the ServiceNow Platform Developer develops, configures, tests, deploys, and supports scalable ServiceNow solutions. The position builds workflows, integrations, applications, and AI-enabled capabilities while supporting platform architecture, security, automation, data integrity, and effective digital service delivery throughout the university.

  • Configures, develops, tests, deploys, and supports ServiceNow platform solutions that deliver digital services, workflow automation, knowledge management, service request fulfillment, and self-service capabilities supporting university academic, administrative, and operational needs.
  • Develops and configures ServiceNow applications, data models, integrations, catalogs, workspaces, portals, and user experiences using native tools such as App Engine Studio, ServiceNow Studio, JavaScript, Glide APIs, UI Builder, Next Experience, IntegrationHub, and related platform technologies.
  • Engineers and supports backend integrations using APIs, web services (REST/SOAP), Integration Hub, import sets, transform maps, webhooks, and MID Servers to connect ServiceNow with other core enterprise university and vendor systems.
  • Develops and maintains the platform's foundational data layer, implementing and maintaining accurate Configuration Management Database (CMDB) structures, configuration items (CIs), and asset relationships in strict alignment with Common Service Data Model (CSDM) principles.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in a related field in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Business Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Two years of relevant experience.
  • Additional experience which demonstrates acquired and successfully applied knowledge and abilities may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
  • An advanced degree in a related field may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified System Administrator (CSA), relevant Certified Implementation Specialist credential, or ITIL Foundation.
  • Experience acting as a technical change agent supporting legacy system migration, business process modernization, and digital service delivery in a complex enterprise or higher education environment.
  • Experience supporting, training, or providing technical guidance to interns, student employees, or junior developer teams.
  • High-level understanding of ServiceNow licensing structures, roles, and platform entitlement boundaries to avoid unintended license consumption during development and module expansion.
  • Equivalent to one to two years of relevant technical experience developing, configuring, integrating, administering, testing, or supporting ServiceNow or a comparable enterprise application, workflow, or service management platform is preferred.  Internships, student employment, and substantial applied project experience may be considered.
  • Hands-on experience with platform configuration or development, including scripting, workflow automation, application building, integrations, or deployment.
  • Experience integrating ServiceNow with platforms such as PeopleSoft Common Human Resources System (CHRS), Campus Solutions, Common Financial System (CFS), SAP Concur, Oracle EPM, JAGGAER (procure to pay), Intune, JAMF, Microsoft Entra, and other enterprise solutions.

 

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Capacity to rapidly learn new platform capabilities, adopt emerging AI/automation tools, apply feedback, and take on increasingly complex development responsibilities.
  • Proven ability to design, develop, test, and maintain scalable ServiceNow solutions; including but not limited to scoped applications, enterprise workflows, App Engine projects, and complex integrations using Glide APIs, JavaScript, and Flow Designer.
  • Strong business systems analysis skills, with the ability to translate operational challenges into digital forms, workflows, routing logic, and role-based automated service experiences.
  • Working knowledge of Graph Connectors, APIs, web services, JSON/XML, data modeling, SSO, logging, error and exception handling, and MID Server configuration and administration.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with both technical and nontechnical stakeholders, manage priorities, and communicate technical concepts clearly to secure buy-in.
  • Hands-on ability to align custom tables, assets, and configuration items with Common Service Data Model (CSDM) standards, and manage data imports using Identification and Reconciliation Engine (IRE) rules. Practical experience securing platform data through Access Control Lists (ACLs), role-based access control (RBAC), and scoped application boundaries.
  • Hands-on experience executing family upgrades and patch cycles, managing instance health, and utilizing native tools (e.g., Instance Security Center, HealthScan) to identify and remediate platform vulnerabilities. Working knowledge of ServiceNow deployment methodologies including Update Sets, Application Repository, source control integrations, and structured release management practices.
  • Ability to manage assigned technical workstreams, track deliverables against project timelines, and deliver high-quality work in a structured IT environment.
  • ServiceNow Certified Application Developer (CAD)

 

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

  • The university offers an excellent benefits package, including but not limited to: medical, dental, vision, retirement & savings, tuition waiver, and more.
  • Classification: 0471 / Software Developer II / Grade 1
  • The anticipated HIRING RANGE is $6492 – $8234 per month, dependent on qualifications and experience. The salary range for this classification is: $6492 - $9458 per month.
  • HOURS: Full Time; 40 hours per week; Monday through Friday. May include evenings and weekends. 
  • This is a Regular position with a one-year probationary period. 
  • The position is currently hybrid (3 days in office, 2 days remote); however, this is subject to change based on student and/or operational needs.
