Tenure-Track Faculty Position

Department of Civil Engineering

 

Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering - Hydrology, Water Resources, or closely related area

Starting Date:

August, 2023

Minimum Qualifications:

1) An earned doctorate (Ph.D.) in Civil Engineering with a focus on Hydrology, Water Resources, or closely related field, from an accredited institution (or equivalent) is required. However, applicants nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) may be considered. For appointment, the doctorate must be completed by the date of appointment (08/17/2023).

2) Evidence of scholarly publications with a focus on Hydrology, Water Resources, or closely related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Evidence of successfully teaching undergraduate and graduate hydrology and water resources courses including laboratory courses.
  2. Demonstrated experience in undergraduate teaching of a diverse student population including first-generation college students.
  3. Demonstrated commitment to teaching development.
  4. Evidence of publications with a focus on Hydrology, Water Resources, or closely related field in scholarly journals.
  5. Evidence of research interests that are appropriate for primarily undergraduate research assistants.
  6. Demonstrated expertise and research/work experience in one or more of the following areas: Water resource management, Hydraulics, Surface and groundwater interactions (e.g. contamination, transport), and Resilience and sustainability of urban water systems.
  7. Evidence of successful experience in academic scholarship such as generating financial resources to develop and pursue externally funded research through grants/contracts.
  8. Registration as a Professional Civil Engineer or potential to obtain a Professional Civil Engineer license.
  9. Evidence of established industry connections.

Duties:

The primary professional responsibilities of instructional faculty members are: teaching, research, scholarship and/or creative activity, and service to the University, profession and to the community.  These responsibilities generally include: advising students, participation in campus and system-wide committees, maintaining office hours, working collaboratively and productively with colleagues, and participation in traditional academic functions.

The College of Engineering, Computer Science, and Technology (https://www.calstatela.edu/ecst) offers ABET-accredited BS programs in Civil, Electrical, and Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science; and BS degrees in Aviation Administration, Engineering Technology, and Fire Protection Administration and Technology. The College also offers MS degrees in Computer Science, Civil, Electrical, and Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, and Industrial Management.

The Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET (https://www.abet.org).
