Salary Range: $3,694 - $7,131/Monthly (Budgeted Hiring Salary Range: $3,694 - $4,336/Monthly)

Work Schedule: Full-Time, Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; temporary appointment, expires on or before one-year from date of hire; may be extended, may become permanent; non-exempt classification.

Essential Functions: Under the general supervision of the Chair of Television, Film, and Media Studies, the UT Business Manager is responsible for planning, developing, organizing, reviewing, and managing the operations of the university's student newspaper, the University Times. The incumbent oversees the operation of the University Times business functions, advertising, circulation, production on print and digital platforms, including csulauniversitytimes.com, and ensures that all operates in a smooth and profitable manner. The incumbent in the position will assist with hiring, training, and provide work direction to student business and advertising sales staff; ensure vendors such as the printing press are paid and made aware of print schedules and changes; process all student assistants who have been approved by the faculty advisor and editor-in-chief for hiring and train them in proper payroll procedures; create press passes for student media journalists; develop and implement accurate and achievable budgets and bid specifications and. reviews, manage and implement accounting and advertising procedures and policies; invoice advertisers and others; help faculty advisor with contest submissions; act as liaison to the campus community, ensuring cohesive communication with students, faculty and staff; participate in state and regional professional media organizations to promote and improve the operations of the University Times and to network within the professional community to create greater awareness of the University Times; establish advertising rates, policies and procedures based on research of past procedures, comparable universities, and published legal advertising standards and create, review and approve advertising contracts/agreements, including verifying information. such as correct rates, sizes, run dates, calculations, complete and correct information for billing. The manager will also train graphic designers on newspaper and advertisement layout and design best practices. They will ensure the newspaper is distributed the day of arrival in all boxes on campus and oversee live student media events.

Required Qualifications & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in business, journalism, or a communications-related field from an accredited higher education institution or equivalent training with an extensive newspaper business background. Minimum three years management experience in the newspaper and digital news industry. Must have knowledge of business, advertising, and production software as well as of circulation procedures of a daily or weekly newspaper across digital platforms. The incumbent must have a demonstrated interest and/or ability in working in a multicultural/multiethnic environment. A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current CSU employees who may apply for the position.

Desired Qualifications: Experience with management of student media at the college or university level. Experience working in a multi­cultural environment and the ability to attend and represent the University Times at conferences and journalism industry events. In addition, multilingual skills, and the ability to fundraise are highly desired.
